Why You’ll Love this Snowman Sock Craft
- There is absolutely no sewing required! As long as you know how to use scissors and glue, then you can make this craft with no issues. You don’t even have to have a hot glue gun — it’s that easy!
- These little snowman friends make perfect gifts and are great decorations. Handmade gifts are such a thoughtful and sweet way to show someone that you care about them.
- A sock snowman is a really affordable craft. You don’t even have to go to your local craft store for supplies. You may already have most things on hands, and what you don’t have you can find at your local dollar store!

Supplies Needed
- White crew sock – This will be the base of your sock snowman. Try to get plain white socks that have no different colors lines or wording on them.
- Scissors – Making this craft with littles? Consider using safety scissors to protect their teeny fingers!
- Polyfil – If you don’t have polyfil, you can cut up a t-shirt or other fabric and stuff the fabric scraps into the sock. You can also fill it with rice, though it won’t be as squishy.
- Rubber bands – Grab thicker rubber bands that don’t easily break, but make sure they’re not too small and can be wrapped around the snowman a few times.
- Fuzzy sock – In a feat of ingenuity, you can turn a fuzzy sock into a hat and scarf for your darling sock snowman craft!
- White school glue – All you need to attach the decorations to your snowman’s body is a plain ol’ bottle of white school glue.
- Black and pink markers – Draw a face and rosy cheeks onto your snowman with a black marker and a pink marker.
- Mini pom poms – Make sure you have an orange one to use as the snowman’s nose, but then have other multi-color ones on hand to use as the buttons on your sock snowman’s body!

How to Make this Snowman Sock Craft
- Cut the white crew sock just above the heel and then discard the top portion or save it for another craft.
- Fill the bottom section of the sock with polyfil, creating a plump snowman shape, and secure the opening with a rubber band.
- Divide the stuffed sock into two sections, a head and a bottom. You can do this by tightly wrapping rubber bands around the sock. Adjust the stuffing as needed to ensure each section is round and proportional.
- Cut the toe section of the fuzzy sock to create the hat of your sock snowman. Fold slightly to make the hat’s brim and then slide the hat onto the snowman’s head and secure it with a small dab of white school glue if necessary. Cut a strip from the remnant of the fuzzy sock for the snowman’s scarf. Tie the scarf around the snowman’s neck.
- Using the black marker, draw two eyes and a smile on the snowman’s face. Use the pink marker to add rosy cheeks. Attach the orange mini pom pom with glue to create a carrot nose.
- Decorate further using additional pom poms as buttons, and add any other embellishments you want. Allow the glue to dry completely before displaying your snowman.

What else can I use to fill a sock snowman?
I like to make my snowman squishy, so I use polyfil. However, you can fill this sock snowman with a variety of different things. Cut up scrap fabric or an old t-shirt and use that as filling. Just keep in mind that multi-colored fabric can show through a white sock.
Rice is also a great filler for your snowman! Or even fill your snowman with some newspaper or balled up copy paper. There’s always options to use!
Pro Tips for the Best Sock Snowman
- You can get creative with your snowman and decorate it however you want! Use pieces of yarn to add details, add some glitter to the bottom of the snowman for a snowy effect, use black buttons instead of pom poms, use ribbon for a scarf, or even add googly eyes for the snowman’s eyes. It’s all up to you!
- Make sure that you even out the filling between the bottom and top of the snowman so that the two are evenly sized!
- For the cutest sock snowman, use a plain white sock. But you could get creative if you want and make a snowman out of printed socks — maybe even Christmas socks!

These sock snowmen are a winter time favorite! Make a snowy friend to enjoy for the season!
