Supplies Needed to Make this Handprint Bee Craft

  • Brown lunch bag – You can find these at your local grocery store. They are typically on the same aisle as the plastic zip top bags. If you can’t find them there, you can order some online! If you have to buy them in bulk, go for it. You can use them in tons of other crafts like this brown bear paper bag craft and so much more!
  • Black and white card stock – Construction paper will work fine too! Just know that the handprint wings may end up a little floppy.
  • Yellow paint – You can’t have a busy little bee puppet without some yellow paint!
  • Black marker – You’ll use this to draw a little smile onto your paper bag bee craft.
  • Googly eyes – I used regular size googly eyes for this craft, but you could use larger eyes too! If you don’t have googly eyes on hand, you can cut out eyes or draw them instead.
  • Paintbrush – Any craft paint brush or foam brush will work!

How to Make this Paper Bag Handprint Bee Craft

Begin by painting the front of a paper bag with yellow paint, then let it dry.

While the bag is drying, trace your handprint onto white paper or white card stock. Go back over the handprint with a black marker.

Cut out the handprint and then make a few line coming up from the bottom of the hand to make wing details. You’ll need four handprints total, two for each side.

Glue two of the handprints side by side. Then, glue that set onto one side of the bag. Repeat with the other two hands and place then on the other side of the bag.

Cut some strips of black paper, about 1″ wide, and trim them to the width of the bag. Then, glue them onto to bag, alternating black and yellow to look like a bumble bee! The last black strip should be just where the bag folds.

Next, glue two small googly eyes onto the flap of the paper bag and draw a little smile with the black marker.

Lastly, cut two small strips of black paper and curl up the ends using either your fingers or a pencil.

Glue them on the top as antennae. And that’s it! All ready for play time!

Can I use black paint instead of paper strips?

Sure! Paint the entire bag yellow and let it dry completely. Then, using two pieces of paper as straight edges, block off a section and fill it in with black paint. Let each stripe dry and then move on to the next!

Pro Tips for the Best Handprint Bee Craft

  • After you glue each black strip onto the bag, put a thin layer of glue over the yellow stripes. Then, sprinkle some gold or yellow glitter over the glue and let it dry! It’ll add some extra flair to your paper bag bee craft!
  • Use black pipe cleaners, with a curled end, as the antennae for your bee!
  • You may be able to find paper bags that are already yellow in the party section at your grocery store! Grab those to save some time.
