What You’ll need for these Homemade Teacher Gifts

  • Scissors – You can use regular scissors or safety scissors for this craft.
  • Washi Tape – I used green washi tape so that the pencils would look like the stem of a flower, but you could use patterned tape or a different color if you’d like.
  • Glue Dots – Glue dots are the key to making this craft easy and mess free! You can find these at your local craft store or on the craft aisle at your grocery store.
  • Twine – Twine adds a cute, rustic, touch to this cute teacher gift, but you could also use ribbon.
  • Hershey Kisses – Be sure to get enough Hershey kisses for however many flower pencil crafts you intend to make.
  • Push Pins – I like to use to push pin that have a flat top. They aren’t as visible and are easier to stick a glue dot to.
  • Card Holder Flower Pick – These can be found at your local craft store or online.
  • Hole Punch – You’ll just need a simple, single hole punch for this craft.
  • Cupcake Liners – The cuter the cupcake liners, the better! These will be the “petals” of your flowers.
  • Pencils – Bonus points if you ask your child’s teachers what their favorite types of pencils are and you use those in this craft.
  • 16 oz Mason Jar – You can buy a bulk package of these Mason jars at stores like Walmart. Or, if you want to save some money, you can often find a lot of mason jars at thrift stores.
  • Printable Gift Tags – The adorable gift tags I’ve provided will add the perfect finishing touch to your homemade teacher gift.

How to make this Flower Pencil Craft

WRAP: Take each sharpened pencil and wrap them in washi tape. Leave the eraser and the tip of the pencils uncovered.

CUT: Stack two green cupcake liners on top of each other and the fold it in half. Cut the cupcake liners to create “leaves” for your flower, leaving the center fold still intact. Place a glue dot between the cupcake liners to keep them together.

CREATE: Stack five cupcake liners of the same color on top of each other and fold it in quarters. Cut the outside edge of the liner in a half circle shape to make the cupcake liner look like petals. Unfold the liners and twist each one so that all the petals are facing in different directions. Then, place glue dots between the liners to keep them together.

BUILD: Put a push pin through the center of your cupcake liner flower and then push the pin into the top of the eraser on a pencil. Place a glue dot on top of the push pin and push a Hershey kiss on top to secure it to the center of the flower.

Repeat these steps for all of the cupcake liner flowers until you have enough.

FINISH: Fill a mason jar with shredded paper and Hershey kisses, then place the flowers in to look like a bouquet. Add in a gift card or any other item you would like and put in the flower pick card holder. Lastly, print off a gift tag and attach it to the mason jar with twine.

Do I have to use glue dots on these Homemade Teacher Gifts?

Not necessarily, but it is the least messy option. You could use craft glue or hot glue, just beware that it could get messy and you’ll have to wait for it to dry after each step.

How many flowers should I make for each bouquet?

I would make no less than six cupcake liner flowers per each mason jar bouquet.

Do I have to use Hershey Kisses?

Nope! Any type of wrapped candy that can mimic the center of a flower will work. Wrapped Reeses or Rolos would be cute!

Pro Tips for the Best Flower Pencil Craft

  • If you make multiple flower bouquets, write the teachers name in metallic sharpie on the mason jar. Or personalize it by adding their name to the gift tag or somewhere else.
  • Want to jazz up your flowers even more? Put a really light layer of glue on the edge or the petals and sprinkle glitter on it. Allow to dry, shake off the excess, and you’ve got glitter flowers!
  • Find out each teachers favorite candy and use that instead of Hershey kisses if applicable.
