Supplies needed to make a Bunny Paper Bag Puppet

  • Paper bags – You can typically find brown paper bags on the aisle with plastic Ziplcok bags. If you can’t find them there, your local craft store may have them!
  • Googly eyes – I recommend purchasing large googly eyes so that they fit better with dimensions of the paper bag.
  • Pom Poms – You’ll need large craft pom poms to glue on as the nose for your paper bag bunny craft. You can get glittery ones or regular ones. I tend to use pink or white as the nose, but feel free to use whatever color you’d like!
  • Glue – Any craft glue will work!
  • Pipe cleaners – The glitter pipe cleaners will give your paper bag bunny a little more pizzazz, but you can use the regular ones too.
  • Card stock – You’ll need brown and pink card stock. You can use construction paper in place of the card stock, but the ears for your bunny may end up flimsy.
  • Scissors – If you’re working with young children, consider using safety scissors.
  • Printable Template – Print this template for the bunny ears. If you don’t have a printer, you can freehand them!

How to make a Paper Bag Bunny

Print out the template for the bunny ears and cut them out. Or, freehand two bunny ears on computer paper and cut them out.

Trace the large cut-outs onto the brown card stock, and then trace the small cut-outs onto the pink card stock. Then, glue the pink shapes in the center of the brown shapes.

Glue the bunny ears at the top of the brown paper bag, on the backside. Fold the tips of the ears down at an angle to make the ears look all floppy and cute!

Now, glue googly eyes about midway up the fold of the paper bag. Take three pipe cleaners and twist them together in the center. Secure them onto the bag with glue, tape, glue dots, or hot glue.

Once the pipe cleaners are set, place a large pom pom over the center. Spread out the pipe cleaners if needed, let everything dry and then have fun!

What can I use in place of googly eyes?

If you don’t have large googly eyes, there are many options you can use in their place! You can paint eyes on with black and white paint or paint pens, cut them out of construction paper, or draw them on!

Can I use hot glue on my bunny paper bag puppet?

Yes! I recommend avoiding hot glue if you’re making this craft with really young children, but you can absolutely use it. You can also use glue dots, tape, and craft glue.

Pro Tips for the Best Paper Bag Bunny

  • Cut a large oval out of the pink card stock and glue it onto the body of the paper bag bunny to give it a cute little belly!
  • If you don’t have pipe cleaners, feel free to draw the whiskers onto each bag with black or brown sharpies or markers.
  • Make your bunny stand out by adding some glitter or glitter glue to its ears!

Instructions

  • Begin by printing the template for the bunny ears. Cut out the bunny ears on the template.
  • Trace the large shapes on brown cardstock. Trace the smaller shapes on pink cardstock. Cut out the pieces.
  • Glue the pink shapes inside the brown shapes.
  • Then glue the ears to the top of a brown paper lunch bag.
  • Fold the tips of the ears down for extra cuteness.
  • Glue googly eyes in place above the fold of the bag.
  • Now, take 3 pipe cleaners and twist together in the center.
  • We like to use tape to secure onto the bag. Glue dots would work, as well, as would hot glue.
  • Finally, once the pipe cleaners are secure, glue a large pom to the center. Again, if you find the large pom hard to stick with glue, use glue dots or hot glue.

Notes

    • If you don’t have large googly eyes, there are many options you can use in their place! You can paint eyes on with black and white paint or paint pens, cut them out of construction paper, or draw them on!
