What You’ll Need for this Beaded Snowflake Ornament

  • Scissors – You can use regular scissors or safety scissors if you’re creating these with small children.
  • Rhinestone Stickers – Using a stick-on rhinestone in the center of your pipe cleaner snowflake will complete the look!
  • Assorted Pony Beads – Use any color beads you want! You can find these at any local hobby store or in the craft aisle of your local grocery store.
  • Craft Pipe Cleaners – Your snowflake will turn out extra perfect if you match your pipe cleaner color to the color of beads you choose to use!

How to Make this Beaded Snowflake Craft

CUT: Grab two of your 12 inch pipe cleaners and cut them both in half.

BUILD: Then, form a cross shape with two of the halves by folding them over one another. Repeat that with the third pipe cleaner and then spread them out to create a 6 pointed snowflake shape.

DECORATE: Thread your beads onto the pipe cleaners, leaving around a 1/4 inch at each end. Loop the end of the pipe cleaner around and then back into the top bead, then twist it to secure the last bead onto each pipe cleaner and keep them all on.

FINISH: Add a rhinestone sticker in the center of your snowflake! Then, if you want, add a ribbon or string to one point of your snowflake to turn it into an ornament. Fishing line will make these snowflakes look like they are floating.

How to Keep Beads from Falling off the Pipecleaners

Make sure you leave about 1/4 inch of space at the end of the pipe cleaner. Make a loop with the extra length and then thread the end back through the last bead. Twist the loop to secure the bead on the pipe cleaner.

What Size Beads Can I Use?

Beads with about a 5/16 inch diameter will be your best bet to fit around the width of a pipe cleaner. Pony beads are great for this craft!

Instructions

  • Let’s start by cutting two 12-inch pipe cleaners in half. Form a cross with 2 of the cut sections. Fold one section of the pipe cleaner in half and twist it around the center to secure it. Grab another section and repeat the step.
  • Separate and spread the pipe cleaners to form a snowflake shape.
  • Next, thread your assorted pony beads onto the pipe cleaners. Leave about ¼ inch at the end of each length of pipe cleaner.
  • Once you have threaded the beads, loop the pipe cleaner and poke it back into the last bead. Twist the end and bend it slightly to secure the beads.
  • Lastly, add a rhinestone sticker to the center of your snowflake.
