Actually, this recipe is so easy to make that the kids can make it all on their own too! A win win for sure.
Why You’ll Love Toast Pizza
- This is a wonderful budget recipe! If you’ve got littles who seem to constantly be snacking, you can make this wallet friendly snack.
- Make pizza toast in just 10 minutes. A great last minute recipe, or something you can throw together quickly when you don’t want to put in a whole lot of effort.
- Add any toppings you want to your crispy and crunchy pizza toast! If you’re kids only like cheese pizza, you can turn this into the best cheesy pizza toast ever.

Ingredients for Pizza Toast
- Sandwich bread – Use whatever type of bread that your kiddos enjoy. White bread, whole wheat, gluten free — any bread that is fluffy and fresh will work!
- Mozzarella cheese – For the most cheesy results, shred your own mozzarella cheese. Pre-shredded works good too, but shredding your own cheese makes it melt even better.
- Mini pepperoni – If you are unable to find mini pepperoni, you can use regular sized pepperoni. However, I recommend slicing them up so that they’ll fit on the slice of bread a little bit better.
- Pizza sauce – Grab a jar of pizza sauce at the grocery store, or make your own homemade marinara sauce.

How to Make Pizza Toast
Before you begin building the pizza toast slices, preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and spray a baking sheet with non stick cooking spray.
Place about six slices of bread onto the baking sheet and bake the bread for 5 minutes until it just begins to toast.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and spread pizza sauce onto each slice of bread. Then sprinkle ¼ cup of shredded mozzarella cheese over the top and add about mini pepperonis on each slice. If desired, sprinkle with fresh chopped basil.
Place the baking sheet of pizza toasts back into the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Then remove from the oven, allow to cool for a few minutes, and serve!
How to Store Pizza Toast
These slices of cheesy pepperoni toast are best fresh, but you can store leftovers if you need to. Place each slice into an airtight container or plastic bag.
FRIDGE: Store in the fridge for up to 2 days. Any longer than that and the bread may become soggy and wont’ reheat very well.
FREEZER: You can freeze these, but the texture may be a little off after reheating. Let them freeze on a baking sheet first, and then transfer to an airtight container or freezer bag.
Reheat in the oven to crisp up the bread again!
Which bread is best for pizza toast?
You can use any bread that your kids enjoy. Whole wheat and regular white bread are our favorites. You can also use honey wheat or something else like Texas toast to make a thick crust. Hearty loaves, like sourdough bread, are great if you want something extra crunchy!
What toppings can I use?
Now that you know how to make pizza toast, you can add whatever toppings you’d like. Some of our favorites are:
- bacon
- diced ham
- Canadian bacon
- Italian sausage
- extra shredded cheese
- fresh herbs
- pizza seasoning
What to Serve with Pizza Toast
If you’re sending this as a school lunch or simply making a lunch at home, pair some energy balls or frozen yogurt bites with your pizza toast. Ants on a log would also be another kid-friendly side!
You can also make pizza toast whenever you need a little protein to balance sugary treats like jello parfaits or s’mores bark.
Some air fryer tater tots or air fryer zucchini fries would also go well with your pizza toast.
Pro Tips for the Best Pizza Toast
- Slice your pizza toast into sticks to make it easier for little hands to hold! And make sure you allow it to cool a bit before slicing.
- Always grease your sheet pan before toasting the bread in the oven. For easy clean-up, line the baking sheet with aluminum foil first and then spray it with nonstick cooking spray.
- Make sure you don’t load the slices of toast with too many toppings or the bread could become too soggy. Just a light layer of pizza sauce, some cheese and a few yummy pizza toppings will work!

Now you’ve got a super simple snack that anyone would love! Kid-friendly, but just as loved by teens and adults too.
