These cute rainbow jello cups are such a fun summer treat that you can easily make! I love refreshing treats that aren’t really heavy and rich. When you go for a swim, you typically don’t want to eat something super rich, but it’s always great to have something a little sweet.

Jello is the perfect little cup of fun to treat yourself! Sure, you could buy the pre-made jello cups at the grocery store, but those are cute rainbows. Plus, homemade jello just tastes better in my opinion. That’s why I make these jell-o jigglers too!

Grab some tasty flavors of jello and get to making this cheerful rainbow treats!

Ingredients for Rainbow Jello Cups

  • Jell-O – You’ll need jello flavors for each of the following colors: blue, green, yellow, orange, and red. I love berry blue, lime, yellow, orange, and strawberry or cherry.
  • Water – Use purified or filtered water for best results and best flavor!
  • Plastic cups – I recommend buying hard plastic disposable cups so that they are a bit more sturdy and hold up better.
  • Whipped cream – Either purchase whipped topping or make your own homemade whipped cream to top each cup of rainbow jello.
  • Cherries – Buy a jar of maraschino cherries for the perfect finishing touch!

Supplies Needed

How to Make Rainbow Jello

  1. Before making the jello, make sure you’ve got plenty of space in your fridge for 12 completed jello cups! Then, place 12 clear plastic cups on a baking sheet and set it aside.
  2. Prepare the blue berry jello according the instructions on the package. I recommend using the speed-set method with ice cubes, it’ll work best for this recipe.
  3. Transfer the jello to a cup by using a bowl with a spout or a turkey baster. Evenly divide the blue jello between all 12 cups.
  4. Place the cups in the fridge for an hour, or until set. Then, continue the process with each flavor: lime, lemon, orange, and cherry.
  5. Once all layers are complete and set, top each cup with whipped cream and a cherry.

How to store leftover Rainbow Jello Cups

Cover each rainbow layered jello cup tightly with plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator for up to a week. Leave the whipped cream and cherry off until you plan to serve. I do not recommend freezing these jello cups!

Can I put jello in the freezer to set faster?

You can, but you need to watch it closely! Only leave jello in the freezer for 15-20 minutes, then let it finish setting in the fridge if still needs some time to chill. However, for these rainbow jello cups I would only recommend this for the first layer. Don’t put set layers of jello into the freezer.

Pro Tips!

  • Add sprinkles to the whipped cream topping for some extra fun! Rainbow sprinkles, glitter sprinkles, or any other favorites would be perfect on these rainbow layered jello cups.
  • Don’t rush layering the different colors of jello. I know you want your sweet treat quickly, but if you layer jello on top of a layer that isn’t set, it’ll become a mess!
  • If you want to make this sugar-free, you can use all sugar free Jello mixes. It will work just as well and be equally as tasty!
