Supplies Needed
- Paper bags – Grab some plain brown paper bags. You can find them at the grocery store on the same aisle as plastic zip top baggies.
- Cardstock – I used brown, red, pink, purple in this handprint heart tree. But you can use different colors for the hearts if you want! I do recommend using brown for the handprint branches though.
- 1” heart paper punch – If you can’t find a heart hole punch, then freehand trace and cut some hearts out. However, this craft will go much faster if you can find a heart paper punch. You can easily order one online!
- Scissors – Making this adorable handprint tree with littles? Then use safety scissors to keep their little fingers safe!
- Glue stick – A school glue stick is all you need to attach the branches and hearts to the tree. You can use glue dots if you want something that is a little less messy!
How to Make a Paper Bag Heart Handprint Tree
- Start by tracing your child’s hand prints onto brown cardstock. You’ll need at least 4 handprints to complete this handprint heart tree.
- Cut out each handprint and then glue the to the top, flap part of the bag to resemble tree branches. Next, punch out a bunch of hearts from the red, pink and purple cardstock.
- Then glue those hearts all over the branches like leaves of a tree and continue to glue them until your heart tree looks l how you want it to look!
- Lastly, trim the edges of the bag to more closley resemble the curved edges of a tree trunk. And that’s it! Your adorable craft is complete!
Pro Tips for the MOST Fun!!
- Decorate this tree however you want. You can use stickers, markers, glitter, pipe cleaners, pom poms, fabric leaves and so much more. Your one simple mission is to make the tree unique and fun! Don’t be afraid to put your own twist on it.
- To make the craft go a bit more quickly, cut the bags ahead of time and punch out hearts ahead of time too. This is especially helpful when you are working with littles who need extra help.
- If you do not have a paper bag, you can use a piece of cardboard instead. Brown cardstock will also work as the handprint heart tree craft base.
