  • Scissors – You can use standard scissors or safety scissors if you’re making this handprint heart craft with young children.
  • Press n’ seal paper – Press n’ seal works best for sealing the center heart in this craft.
  • Tissue paper, assorted colors – You can use Valentine’s colors or your favorite color, but you will need multiple different colors to make it look like a stained glass window.
  • Glue stick – Use a glue stick or any craft glue.
  • Markers – You can use any color marker, so just grab your assorted markers and choose your favorite color! Be sure to use washable markers if you’re making this craft with young children.

How to make this Valentine’s Handprint Craft

Begin by taking a sheet of card stock (or construction paper) and folding it in half vertically. Place your hand on the folder sheet with your pointer finger and thumb creating a “half heart” shape.

Trace your hand very carefully with your pointer finger and thumb at the folded edge.

Cut out your traced hand and be sure that your don’t cut the fold so that the hands stay together.

Cut out a piece of press n’ seal that is 1/4 inch larger than the heart that has been created and then place the hands underneath the sheet of press n’ seal.

Take your tissue paper and cut it into small pieces and press those pieces onto the press n’ seal. Overlap the pieces so that it creates a stained glass look.

Place a thin layer of glue around the backside of the heart and then glue it on top of the previously placed press n’ seal “stained glass”.

Then, grab a marker and make your Valentine extra special by personalizing it!

Instructions

  • Let’s start by taking a piece of card stock and folding it in half vertically. Once folded, trace your hand onto the paper. Try to get your thumb close to the fold. Once traced, cut the hand out using care to make a heart shape in the middle of the thumb and pointer finger. Make sure not to cut the fold, so the paper stays connected. Once cut, unfold the hand; you should see a heart in the center.
  • Cut a piece of press and seal about a ¼ inch larger than the heart. Place the hands under the press n’ seal, centering it in the middle of the heart.
  • Grab some tissue paper and cut several small pieces. Use the small pieces by overlapping them on the press n seal until the heart is covered. Press to secure.
  • Next, place a thin layer of glue around the back of the heart and then lay it on top of the press n seal so that the tissue paper shows through like a window.
  • Lastly, grab your favorite marker and personalize your Valentine's handprint craft!
