Tell your Valentine that their love “sends you to the moon” with this adorable Valentine rocket craft! It’s such a fun craft to make to celebrate this special day and your kids can get lost in a galaxy of creativity. This craft is really just a guide to the basics, but you can use any craft supplies to make your rocket extra special. A Valentine’s Day paper bag rocket craft is perfect for kids of all ages — just so much fun!

I’ve got a really cute craft idea to make a toilet paper roll rocket too if you don’t have paper bags. Either way, the bright colors and easy-to-follow instructions make these crafts a great activity for a Valentine’s Day party or simply a fun craft time. You can never have too many rocket ships! Blast off to the moon with this creative and easy craft.

Why You’ll Love this Valentine’s Day Paper Bag Rocket Craft

  • A paper bag rocket ship is really affordable! You only need some construction paper, paint and a paper bag. Oh, and some scissor and a pen. If you do crafts often, you likely already have most of these materials.
  • Tracing, painting, cutting and glueing are all wonderful activities that refine fine motor skills. Not only is it fun but it’s a great way to develop critical skills.
  • Open ended crafts, like this one, are a great way to encourage imaginative play. I love to watch kiddos imaginations at work with cool things like this rocket.

Supplies Needed

  • Paper bag rocket template – Download and print out this template for the hearts and the triangle that will be used as the wings for the Valentine’s rocket. If you do not have a printer, then you can free hand the shapes needed.
  • Paper bags – These can be found on the same aisle in the grocery store where the plastic zip top bags are. If you can’t find them there, then you can order some online!
  • Cardstock – Make sure you have multiple different colors for all the shapes and parts you need for this rocket ship. I used yellow, orange, red, and purple.
  • Paint – Since this is a Valentine craft, I used red paint! You can use pink paint or another color that you want. Make sure that you are using nontoxic acrylic paint.
  • Scissors – If little hands insist on cutting their own materials then I recommend considering using safety scissors.
  • Glue stick – A simple school glue stick is all you need to put together this cute rocket Valentine craft.

How to Make a Valentine’s Paper Bag Rocket

Begin by painting a brown paper bag with whichever base color you want to use. Then allow the paint to dry completely.

While you wait for the paper bag to dry, trace and cut out little handprints onto cardstock. These will be used as the flames at the bottom of your rocket, so feel free to make yellow or orange flames. You could even use a mix of red, yellow and orange!

Print the provided template and then cut out each piece. Trace the hearts and fin onto the cardstock color of your choosing, then cut them out.

Cut the triangle in half and then glue both pieces on the left and right of the bottom of the bag. For this craft, flip the flap of the bottom of the bag to the front.

Glue the handprint flames onto the bottom of the bag. Then glue the hearts on the body of the rocket!

Allow all the glue to dry and then enjoy your master creation!

Pro Tips for the Most Crafting Fun!

  • Give this craft your own personal flair with any extra materials! Stickers, crayons, markers, ribbon, pom poms, glitter and pipe cleaners are just a few of the fun ideas you can use to personalize your rocket. The possibilities are endless!
  • To save some time, buy paper bags that are already colored. Then you won’t have to paint them and wait for them to dry!
  • While this Valentine rocket craft is easy to make, adult supervision for younger children is recommended. You can ensure things go off without a hitch and major messes are avoided.
