  • Use these to decorate for a cool party theme, or even play with as a homemade puppet! There’s so much you can do with these adorable paper birds.

Supplies Needed to Make Paper Bag Love Birds

  • Paper bags – You can find paper lunch bags in the same section of the grocery store where you would look for plastic zip top bags.
  • Acrylic paint – I like using a pretty sky blue or a bright and cheerful pink to make my little love birds. However, you can use any color that you want!
  • Cardstock  – Any colors that you want will work wonderfully! Just choose ones that will pair best with the base color that you chose for your bag.
  • 1” heart paper punch – If you cannot find a heart paper punch, you can freehand the little heart that you’ll use as a tuft of hair on the top of your paper bird.
  • Googly eyes – Grab the medium size of googly eyes so that they are the right proportion to the rest of the paper bag love bird.
  • Markers – You’ll need assorted colors of markers so that you can decorate your bird however you want.
  • Scissors – If you are working with younger children, consider using safety scissors to cut out each of the shapes that you will need to decorate the paper lunch bag bird.
  • Glue stick – A simple school glue stick is all that you need to attach all the fun decorations. You can also use glue dots if you want something even less messy.

How to Make Paper Bag Love Birds

  1. Paint your paper bag with whichever color that you’ve chosen. I like to use pink or seafoam blue, but you could use colors like red, purple or even yellow! Allow the paint to dry completely.
  2. While the paint dries, print the heart wing template and cut it out. One of the hearts is smaller than the other, so be sure to keep them separate.
  3. Trace the larger heart onto the cardstock you want and cut it out. Then cut a small triangle shape for the beak and glue it in place it on the flap of the paper bag along with googly eyes.
  4. Use markers to draw feather details on the body of the bird. Then trace and cut the smaller hearts on a different color of cardstock. Glue those hearts onto the larger heart and wait for the glue to dry.
  5. Lastly, punch out a small heart and glue it to the head of the bird to complete your adorable paper bag love bird!

What else can I add to Paper Bag Love Birds?

Feel free to decorate this adorable love bird craft however you want! Fun things like ribbon, glitter, stationary products, pom poms, feathers, and tissue paper can all be great decorations on your bird craft. The more adventurous you get, the better! You can make these birds extra cute with tons of different craft materials.

Pro Tips for the Best Paper Bag Bird Craft

  • To save a bit of time and skip the painting step, you can use paper bags that are already colored. Just look in the section of Walmart that sells party products and find the bags that you can use to hold gift items. They are essentially just colored kraft paper bags!
  • Cover your workspace with paper or a plastic table cloth to protect it while you paint and glue things together.
  • If you do not have a printer, then feel free to freehand the hearts for the wings. Draw them onto a piece of paper, cut them out and then trace as you would with the template!
Two complete Love Birds.

This paper bag love bird craft is just a blast to make! So cute and perfect for kids of all ages.
