Ingredients for Crock Pot Chicken and Noodles

  • Extra wide egg noodles – Feel free to change up the noodles and use something different, just keep an eye on them as they cook because the cook time may be different.
  • Frozen peas – Frozen peas are best in this recipe because they don’t get mushy in the crock pot while canned peas would get mushy.
  • Boneless skinless chicken breast – You can use boneless skinless chicken thighs in place of chicken breast if you prefer.
  • Chicken broth – If you prefer to keep the sodium levels lower, then swap this out for low sodium chicken broth!
  • Cream of chicken soup – Use two cans of cream of chicken soup to make a super creamy sauce.
  • Butter – You can use either salted and unsalted butter in this easy chicken and noodles in crock pot.
  • Chopped onions – I recommend using white onion or yellow onion since red onion tends to have a super strong flavor.
  • Minced garlic – Fresh minced garlic just adds so much flavor to food! I use it in so many different recipes. An easy way to elevate the flavor of a dish.
  • Salt and pepper – Just a little salt and pepper will season this dish well and bring out the flavors perfectly.

Helpful Tools

How to Make Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles

  1. Place boneless skinless chicken breasts in the bottom of your slow cooker and top each one with slices of butter.
  2. Dump the two cans of cream of chicken soup into a mixing bow, then add the chicken broth, chopped onions, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  3. Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the chicken breasts. Cook on low heat for 5-6 hours, or high heat for 3-4 hours.
  4. Remove the chicken from the crock pot and shred it into large chunks using two large forks.
  5. Add the shredded chicken back to the slow cooker along with dry egg noodles and frozen peas. Stir to combine.
  6. Cook for another 30-35 minutes until noodles are tender, then serve and enjoy!

How to Store Leftover Chicken and Noodles

Transfer leftovers to an airtight container and allow to cool completely before refrigerating. Then store in the fridge for 3-4 days. It is important to not that the longer this dish is stored, the more liquid the noodles will soak up.

Cream based sauces do not freeze very well, so I do not recommend freezing leftovers.

How to Reheat Chicken and Noodles

It’s best to reheat this dish on the stovetop! To help reconstitute the sauce, you may need to add a splash of heavy cream of chicken broth. Feel free to reheat leftovers in the microwave but the texture will likely change.

Are there any substitutions and variations I can make to this recipe?

You can add tons of yummy things to this dish! Diced carrots, broccoli, and even corn would be so tasty in chicken and noodles. Feel free to swap out cream of mushroom soup in place of cream of chicken soup. You can also add things like red pepper to give this dish a little bit of kick.

Why did my noodles turn to mush in my crockpot?

If you end up with mushy noodles, you likely overcooked them. Make sure that you add the noodles in the very last 30 minutes of cooking and that you don’t keep the crockpot on the “keep warm” setting after cooking.

What to Serve with Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles

Kid-friendly side dishes like air fryer potatoes and air fryer zucchini fries are always a hit. Fresh breadsticks, biscuits and dinner rolls are delicious with this dish too.

Kiddos typically enjoy green beans with bacon and glazed carrots too! Great dishes to go with this crockpot chicken and noodles dish. And then serve a dessert like sour cream cookies!

Pro Tips for the Best Slow Cooker Chicken and Noodles

  • Make sure the chicken breasts are even thickness before adding them to the crock pot. This will ensure that they each finish cooking at the same time.
  • You can quickly shred chicken by placing it into a stand mixer with the paddle attachment. Turn on the mixer and run it until the chicken shreds evenly.
  • To add more flavor to this recipe, use any of your favorite fresh herbs and dried spices. Garlic powder, onion powder, poultry seasoning, rosemary and thyme would all be wonderful in this dish!
