Slime is a great sensory play for at home or for in in a preschool room. And you can make so many different kinds! This fluffy slime and homemade slime are both so fun.

Only 3 Ingredients Needed for Pot of Gold Slime

Steps to Make Slime

  • Mix Glue & Water – Empty the glue into a large bowl. Fill the empty glue bottle about ⅓ full with warm water (about ¼ cup) and seal with the lid. Shake well to combine the remaining glue with the water. Pour into the bowl with glue and stir to combine.
  • Mix Baking Soda – Add the baking soda to the glue and stir to mix thoroughly.
  • Optional Add Ins – If you are adding additional glitter, food coloring, scents, or confetti, stir into the glue mixture before adding the contact lens solution.
  • Mix in Contact Solution – Add contact lens solution to the glue mixture and stir well. (Note: regular glue will require less contact lens solution than glitter glue. Add the contact lens solution slowly, mixing between additions, and add only enough to bring the glue together into a soft ball.)
  • Knead Slime – Remove the slime from the bowl. The slime will be sticky. Begin to play with the slime, stretching or kneading it as you would bread dough, to bring the slime together. The slime is ready when it is no longer sticky.

Expert Tips

  • Make sure your contact solution has boric acid. If it doesn’t the slime will not work right!
  • Follow the recipe and make sure you add the ingredients in the correct order.
  • If your slime is to sticky add in a little more contact solution to the mixture and kneed the slime.
  • Add in some fun St. Patrick’s Day confetti to the slime to make it even more festive!

How to Remove Slime

The dreaded moment when slime gets in your carpet or somewhere else in your house!

My biggest tip is to mix 2/3 c. vinegar and 1/3 c. water in a spray bottle. Spray the cleaner on the slime, let it soak in and then scrub with a brush to work the cleaner into and break it down. Blot with a cloth to remove excess liquid. If the color is still there after you remove the slime use rubbing alcohol to remove it.

If the slime has already dried follow the steps above and then apply ice to the slime stain, let sit for 10 minutes or until slime is brittle and scrape out of the carpet.

If it gets in your child’s hair give them a shower or bath and wash the hair with shampoo and conditioner and it should remove it all from their scalp and hair. Make sure to massage it and work it out if they have a lot of it in their hair. If that doesn’t work you can also try to spray the vinegar and water mixture onto the hair to break it up.
