Supplies needed for this Homemade Slime Recipe

  • Elmer’s glue – Any generic brand of school glue will work for this easy slime. Be sure to purchase white glue.
  • Contact solution – It doesn’t matter what brand of contact solution you use as long i contains sodium borate and boric acid. These are essentially an activator for the slime and will make the slime less sticky.
  • Baking soda – Baking soda is what will firm up your slime. It’s an essential ingredients, so don’t skip it!

  • Resealable container – Store your completed homemade slime in a tupperware container or Ziplock bag. Any resealable container will work.
  • Optional: Craft paper – You’ll want to protect your workspace. So I recommend covering it in craft paper or a disposable table cloth.

How to Make Homemade Slime

In a large mixing bowl, combine one cup of Elmer’s school glue and 1 ½ teaspoons of baking soda.

Then, add 1 tablespoon of contact solution into the mixture and knead it for a few minutes. If the slime mixture is still sticky, continue to add another tablespoon of contact solution bit by bit until the stickiness is gone.

Divide the slime equally to add color. Place a few drops of food coloring onto each ball of slime and knead it in until it reaches the color that you want.

Your slime is ready to go! Make as many fun slimy creation as you’d like.

What makes slime fluffy?

This homemade slime recipe is not fluffy, but I do have a recipe for fluffy slime! Slime is made fluffy when you use shaving cream in the mixture.

Pro Tips for the Best Homemade Slime

  • Twist the different colors of slime for a fun tie-dye effect! The colors will eventually mix together, but it will look super cool until they do.
  • Use disposable gloves when you knead the food coloring into each mound of slime. It will protect your hands as you mix it in and they won’t end up dyed. Once the dye is mixed in well, it won’t transfer to your hands.
  • Be sure you play with your slime on a clean surface so that it doesn’t pick up debris and end up with things trapped inside it.
