It’s summer, it’s hot and the kids are bored! It’s the perfect time to make your own homemade bubbles and bubble wands to beat the boredom during the summer.

With only 2 ingredients in the bubble mix, 3 if you count water, it’s so easy to make. Plus, they are all pantry staples that I bet you already have!

You can also make your own huge bubble wand with just yarn and straws. Of course, the kids can use bubble wands they already have, but this bubble wand makes massive bubbles they will love.

If you want, you can make it a science lesson by teaching them about measuring the solutions themselves and what happens when you mix different things together.

We all know it’s easy to go through a whole entire container of bubbles in an afternoon, so these inexpensive ones are perfect.

How to Make Bubbles

  • In a large bowl gently stir water and corn syrup together.
  • Add dishwashing soap and mix gently.

You can store any leftovers in a glass jar with a top!

How to Make Bubble Wand

  1. Measure the yarn to be at least 6 times longer than one straw.
  2. Loop the yarn through both straws and tie together to secure.
  3. Dip the wand in the bubble mixture using the straws as handles.
  4. Do not stir the bubble mixture when you did the wand.

Expert Tips

  • Don’t shake or stir you bubbles to much.
  • Experiment blowing your bubbles with different things! Anything that forms a plastic hole can be used.
  • Use an old jar to hold an extra bubble mixture you have.
  • Have kids experiment with what happens when they use large breaths vs small quick bursts of breath when they blow the bubbles.
  • This solution can be used with regular bubble wands if you don’t want to make your own.

Make it a Game

  • Have an adult or game leader call out different body parts and pop the bubbles with that body part.
  • Play a game of Simon Says where the game leader calls out how to blow the bubble. You can do things like blow 5 bubbles, blow a tiny bubble, etc.
  • Who can blow the BIGGEST bubble ever?
