Supplies Needed to Make Paper Plate Shark Craft

  • Paper plate – Any paper plate will work. You can buy the super cheap paper plates in a large pack if you need to make a lot of these paper plate sharks!
  • Scissors – If you are making this craft with young children, be sure to use safety scissors!
  • Googly eyes – Use big googly eyes for an extra silly and fun look.
  • Paint brush – All you need is a small or medium craft paint brush to complete this craft.
  • Red marker – Permanent and washable markers will both work great!
  • Silver cardstock – If you can’t find silver card stock, you can use grey card stock instead!
  • Silver and white paint – Simple acrylic paints are all you need to paint this paper plate shark craft.
  • Glue stick – Grab a stick of school glue or craft glue. Glue dots also work great if you’d like something you don’t have to wait to dry.

How to Make a Paper Plate Shark

  1. Paint one side of the paper plate with silver or grey acrylic craft paint.
  2. Then, paint the bottom ⅓ of the plate white and then let all of paint sit to dry.
  3. While the paint dries, cut two triangles from the silver cardstock. Glue one of the triangles to the top of the plate with the point up. Then glue the other triangle to the back of the plate with the flat edge facing out.
  4. Once the paint has dried, glue two googly eyes onto the plate just above the bottom third that is painted white.
  5. Use a red marker to draw a mouth on the white paint. You can do a simple smile or a silly face with shark teeth!
  6. Allow everything to dry if there are still wet spots, then have fun playing with you silly shark friend!

What to use in place of googly eyes?

Sometimes you can run into trouble finding large googly eyes. If you can’t find any, you can paint eyes on or cut some out from construction paper. You can use smaller googly eyes, but the proportions will be a little off.

Pro Tips!

  • To speed up this process, buy plates that are already grey. You should be able to find any color of plate in the party section of Walmart or at your local party supply store.
  • Making this craft with a large group? Pre-paint the plates and trace the triangles onto card stock ahead of time. That way, each kid can cut their triangles and start assembling their paper plate shark.
  • Use glittery card stock for some extra fun on you super silly shark!
