I love making fun desserts like these pudding cups and no-bake dirt pie! Kids always go nuts over desserts like these. I mean, who wouldn’t want to eat some tasty dirt or sand with candy crawlers and animals in it? So much fun!

This recipe calls for vanilla pudding base so that you can color it blue, but feel free to change it up a bit! As long as you can make it look like blue ocean water, you can do so much with the sand pudding cups. They’re super easy to make and will taste so yummy!

Ingredients for Sand Dessert Cups

  • Vanilla pudding mix – Vanilla pudding tastes super good in these beach themed pudding cups, but you could use any flavor you want!
  • Milk – I recommend using whole milk in this recipe, but you can use 2% or 1% milk if your prefer.
  • Food coloring – Use blue food coloring to make the pudding look like that water at the beach.
  • Vanilla Oreos – Finely crush the golden Oreo cookies with a food processor or in a gallon ziplock bag and beat it with a rolling pin.
  • Teddy grahams – Use teddy grahams or any other animal cracker to look like they’re swimming in the ocean pudding!
  • Whipped topping – You can either purchase whipped topping or make homemade whipped cream to mix into the pudding. It makes it fluffy and delicious!
  • Assortment of candy – Candy like swedish fish, gummy sharks, lifesaver gummies, peach rings, and sour strips are perfect for these fun sand dessert cups.

How to Make Sand Pudding Cups

  1. In a medium bowl, combine cold milk and pudding mixture with a whisk until thoroughly mixed. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  2. Gently fold in the whipped topping until well combined and then fold in the blue dye.
  3. Spoon the pudding into glasses or cups. The, chill in the refrigerator for an hour.
  4. Once chilled, sprinkle crush golden Oreo cookies on top of each pudding cup to resemble sand. You can either cover the entire top or just one side.
  5. Add gummy candies for decoration and a few teddy grahams as little swimming ocean buddies!

How to Store Leftover Sand Dessert Cups

For best results, don’t store leftovers with sand topping on them! Cover each of the beach pudding cups in plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator. They’ll last for about 2-3 days!

Can I use crushed graham crackers instead of Golden Oreos?

Sure! If you would prefer to use crushed graham cracker crumbs instead of crushed golden Oreos, go for it. You may even be able to find a box of pre-crushed graham crackers at your local grocery store.

Pro Tips for the Best Sand Pudding Cups

  • Change things up a bit by making these layered beach themed pudding cups. Spoon a layer of pudding into the cup, then a layer of crushed golden Oreo sand, then pudding, then sand, and repeat until you reach the top layer!

Ingredients

  • 3.4 ounces box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk
  • 8 ounces whipped topping thawed
  • Blue food coloring
  • 10-12 Golden Oreo cookies crushed
  • Gummy sea creatures
  • Gummy stars or shells
  • Gummy Rings
  • Umbrella Cocktail Picks

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, add cold milk and sprinkle pudding over top and whisk until well combined.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  • Gently fold in whipped topping until well combined.
  • Then add blue food dye and fold in. Add enough to get your desired color of blue. 
  • Spoon into glasses or cups.
  • Sprinkle crushed Golden Oreo cookies on top of pudding in cups. You can cover the entire top or blue pudding mix on one side to resemble the ocean.
  • Add gummy candies for decoration.
  • Chill until ready to serve.
