Ingredients Needed
- Club soda – You could also use tonic water or a lemon lime soda like Sprite or 7Up.
- Sugar – Use granulated white sugar to sweeten your slushie. Looking for a sugar-free version? Omit completely or use your favourite sugar substitute.
- Drink mix powder – We use Kool-Aid. Don’t grab the big tub with sweetener added because we are using sugar in the recipe. Grab the inexpensive packets.
- Ice cubes – the key to that perfect slushy texture!

Is it okay to put soda in the blender?
If you’re wondering if a carbonated beverage is going to blow the top off of your blender, stop right there! There isn’t a large amount of soda in this recipe, so there will be tons of room in your blender. Plus the more it moves around in the blender, the more carbonation it will lose. Nothing to worry about, but I would still make sure that blender lid is on tight!
How do you get the right slushie texture?
If your slushie seems like it is too thick, just add a little extra club soda. You can also add water if you want a thinner version.
Add too much liquid off the start? Add some more ice cubes til you get the slushie texture you like.
Can I use something other than Kool-Aid to flavor the slushie?
If Kool-Aid Slushies aren’t your thing, you can still enjoy this homemade slushie recipe! Any drink powder, liquid flavoring or extract will work. If you use liquid, we recommend starting with about 1/4 teaspoon. If you use an extract that is clear, you can add food coloring to the slushie to make it a fun, bright treat!
Why won’t my slushie blend?
First, make sure you have a high powdered blender like our favorite Ninja blender. You can also add a little more club soda to make it easier to blend.
What if I don’t have a blender?
We love our Ninja Blender, but if you don’t have one, no sweat! You can still make this slushee with a food processor on high speed until the slushee reaches the consistency you like.
