What is Cinco de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. Though much of Mexico actually does not celebrate this holiday, it has become quite popular in America. Celebrating this Mexican holiday has become a fun way for Mexican-Americans to celebrate their heritage!

Many schools hold class parties to acknowledge this holiday and many communities hold celebrations too! It’s a day filled with dance, song, and lots of good food! It’s DEFINITELY a good excuse to a taco…or two!
