You can also turn it a garland! Simply string a piece of yarn or thread through the back of the ghost’s head and it will be an adorable ghost garland to hang on your mantel, staircase, windows and so much more.
Why You’ll Love This Activity
- Yarn ghosts are super simple and only take about 10 minutes to put together so the kids won’t lose interest in the activity at hand.

Supplies Needed for Yarn Ghosts Craft
- White yarn – Any white yarn will be fine. Or choose some fun colors!
- Black felt – Black cardstock can be used, too. This is used to create the ghost’s eyes.
- Hot glue gun – Gives the best result to glue the eyes onto the ghost, but you could use any craft glue.
- Scissors – Make sure they are sharp and clean!
- Ribbon – Optional, you can attach a loop to hang the ghost from.
- Book – Any book will do, you are just using it to wrap the yarn around. If you haven’t got a book handy, you can use a sturdy piece of cardboard.
How To Make Yarn Ghosts
Wrap the yarn around your book several times, then carefully pull it off, making sure the shape is intact.
Take a small piece of yarn and tie off the top of the loop.

Cut the bottom loop. The yarn should hang freely now.
About an inch and a half from the top of the ghost, take another small strand of yarn and tie it around the yarn to create a ghost head.

Using the black felt, cut out two triangles for eyes and a circle for a mouth with a pair of scissors. Carefully hot glue them onto the head of the yarn ghost.
If you choose, thread black ribbon through the top loop of the head so you can hang the yarn ghost.
Repeat these steps until you have your desired amount of yarn ghosts!

How to Make a Yarn Ghost Garland
