Supplies Needed

  • Cardstock – If you do not have cardstock then you can use construction paper instead. Strips of construction paper may not be as sturdy as card stock but they’ll still work!
  • Glue – Use a simple school glue stick to attach the red tongue and googly eyes onto the paper snake. You can also use glue dots if you want something extra mess free.
  • Googly eyes – Grab some small googly eyes to make a silly face on your own paper snake. You can also use a pencil, pen or maker to draw eyes instead of using googly ones.
  • Scissors – If you are making this fun craft with littles, consider using safety scissors to protect their little fingers.
  • Stapler – A stapler is a quick and easy way to attach the ends of the loops together to create a long paper chain.

How to Make a Paper Chain Snake

  1. Cut strips out of different colors of cardstock. You can cut as many paper strips as you want to make the snake as long as you’d like!
  2. Bring together the ends of one of the strips to form a loop and then staple it together. Then slide another strip of paper through the first loop and then staple that together.
  3. Continue connecting all of the strips until your paper chain is complete.
  4. Once you get to the head of the snake, pinch the loop to flatten it in the front. Then cut a small tongue out of red cardstock and glue it under the first circle that you flattened out.
  5. Add googly eyes to the snake head and then you’re ready to play!

How can I connect paper chains without a stapler?

If you don’t want to use a stapler, then you can use glue or glue dots. Hot glue and double sided tape also work to connect the ends of the strips of paper. Use any methods that you want to make your adorable little paper snake.
