How to Make Christmas Brownies

Make the brownies: Mix up the brownie batter following the package instructions. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake them for 22 minutes at 350°F.

Cool: Once the brownies are done baking, allow them to cool in the pan before slicing them. If you slice them while they are warm you won’t get clean cuts.

Cut them into trees: Use a serrated knife to cut the brownies into 12 equal-sized squares. Use the knife to trim each square into a triangle.

Add the straws: Insert a straw at the base of each brownie tree.

Decorate! Pipe the green frosting onto each tree in a zigzag pattern. Add the sprinkles to finish them up!

Can you use a 9×13″ baking pan instead of a jelly roll pan?

I recommend using the jelly roll pan because you don’t want thick brownies. A larger pan will make thinner brownies which are easier to eat off a stick.

If you only have a 9×13″ baking pan, you can use it but you won’t get as many brownie trees and they will be a lot thicker. They will also need to bake longer.

Can you use a Christmas tree cookie cutter?

Yes, a cookie cutter will work. Use a larger tree cookie cutter and, when you cut out the brownie, be sure to press evenly through the brownie to get a clean cut.

How long do frosted brownies keep?

Once you’ve decorated your brownies, place them in an airtight container in a single layer. This will keep the frosting and decorations from getting smudged.

They will keep at room temperature for two to three days.

Make Ahead Tips

You can make and bake the brownies ahead of time and decorate them later! Allow them to cool completely and store them in an airtight container for up to one day before frosting them.

Or you can freeze the unfrosted brownies for up to two months. I recommend wrapping them individually and storing them in a large freezer bag. Let them thaw at room temperature before adding the icing and sprinkles.
