Supplies Needed for Toilet Paper Roll Butterfly Craft

The supply list might look long, but most of these things you already have, if not of all of them! Be creative with the decorations. We used rhinestones but let the kids have fun with it!

Tracing wings for butterfly

Cut out Butterfly Wings

The first thing you want to do is cut out the butterfly wings on cardstock paper. Make sure you do this before you paint the body so you don’t have to wait for the paint to dry for this step.

Draw a small curve to connect the wings and leave room to attach the tube.

Another option is to draw to hearts and glue the tips of them to the back of the toilet paper roll.

Paint the Butterfly Body aka the Toilet Paper Roll

The next step is to paint the tube to make the butterfly body.

You can either coordinate the color of your body and the wings or make them compliment.

This is where it’s fun to let the kids pick out their favorite colors and let them make their butterfly just how they want!

Cut Out Wings

While the paint is drying cut out wings, fold in half, and curl each side backwards just a little so they curve to hug the toilet paper roll.

Assemble and Decorate the Butterfly!

Glue the body (toilet paper roll) to the wings, and add googly eyes and a mouth.

Decorate wings as desired. We used rhinestones for our wings, but you could use sequins, buttons, pom poms, stickers, foam, markers etc.

Cut pipe cleaner to about 8”. Fold in half and curl each end to form antennae. Glue inside the tube.
