How to Make a Bird Feeder out of a Toilet Paper Roll
- Cover cardboard tube in a thin layer of peanut butter.
- Spread bird seed out on a plate or tray and roll the toilet paper tube in the seeds to coat it.
- Sprinkle more seeds onto any area that got missed, and lightly press over the whole tube to make sure everything sticks.
- Optional: thread a piece of twine through the tube and tie the ends together to create a loop for hanging.
- Hang on a tree branch with the twine loop or place tube directly around the branch.
What if I have a peanut allergy?
If you or someone else enjoying this easy bird feeder craft have a peanut allergy, you can substitute another nut butter like sunflower seed, soy or almond in place of peanut butter.
Are toilet paper rolls biodegradable?
For the most part, yes, toilet paper rolls are considered biodegradable because they are made from cardboard. Cardboard will break down over time, it is just a matter of how much time depending on the actual manufacturing process of the roll. So if you leave your empty toilet paper roll bird feeder craft out in the elements, it is most likely to decompose.
Pro Tips
- If you are looking for a few more toilet paper rolls, you can also cut a paper towel roll into two or three smaller rolls.

Have fun making your Bird Feeder and watching the birds come and eat it! Kids of all ages will love creating these feeders and watching to see what varieties of birds make their way into your yard for a snack.
