Christmas is right around the corner, and so is Christmas break! It’s typically way too cold for the kids to go play outside during the break, so craft time is a necessity between all of the Christmas parties and baking time. These Santa binoculars are just the thing to keep the kiddos occupied.

Not only will they make the craft, but then they will go play with them. Oh, and they’ll LOVE looking to starry skies and keeping an eye out for Santa and his reindeer.

Fill those chilly days with cozy baked treats like Christmas brownie pops and a big ol’ mug of whipped hot chocolate. Then make fun crafts like Santa binoculars and print out loads of coloring pages.

Sometimes, our most favorite days that make the most memories are those cold days spent indoors. There’s just so much fun to be had around the holiday season!

Why You’ll Love Santa Binoculars

  • This craft is great for a wide range of ages. Your littles will love it, but older kids still have a blast too since it’s not a “kiddie” craft!
  • Christmas binoculars are not just a craft to display, but are a useful toy to be played with. It’s an all-in-one entertainment craft and toy!
  • You can make this Santa binoculars craft in just 30 minutes! It won’t be long until they’re ready for play time and watching the skies for Santa’s sleigh.

Supplies Needed

  • Felt – You will need red, white, and black felt to complete this craft. The red felt needs to be color of Santa’s suit!
  • Toilet paper rolls – If you don’t have empty toilet paper rolls, you can cut empty paper towel rolls in half.
  • Scissors – Making this craft with littles? Consider using safety scissors. They will work just as well as regular scissors when completing this craft!
  • Gold pipe cleaners – Sparkly gold pipe cleaners will build the belt buckle of your Santa binoculars.
  • String – I recommend using a red or white string to keep with the Christmasy theme of this cutie little craft.
  • Craft hook tool – You can find this at your local hobby store or in the craft section at Walmart.
  • Glue gun – Hot glue works best for this craft since felt won’t adhere quickly to other types of glue.
  • Hot glue sticks – Have you ever been working on a craft and run out of hot glue sticks halfway through? It’s so frustrating! Make sure you’ve got a stock of hot glue sticks before you begin building Christmas binoculars.

How to Make this Santa Binoculars Craft

Begin by cutting the red felt into pieces that are 4 1/2” wide. Then place a line of hot glue vertically on one side of each empty toilet paper roll.

Roll the toilet paper roll towards the center of the felt and add a little bit of glue at a time until they meet in the middle.

Next, cut the black and white felt into 1 ½” strips.

Glue the white felt on the bottom of your Santa binoculars and then place the black strip towards the center. Wrap each strip around the binoculars until they each meet in the middle.

Once all of the felt is glued and has dried in place, cut the sparkly gold pipe cleaners into four 1″ pieces. Glue them onto the black belt with hot glue.

Next, pierce the sides of the binoculars with the craft hook. Punch at the top on either side.

Measure your child’s neck and find where they want their binoculars to hand. Then cut the string at the length that is needed.

Poke the string through the holes and then tie the string in a knot to make a strap.

Start playing with your fun Christmas binoculars!

What can I use if I don’t have a craft hook?

Essentially, all you need the craft hook for is to poke through the felt and toilet paper roll. You can use a needle, the tip of scissors, and adults can carefully use a knife. Whatever you have the will poke a hole through the layers will work!

Do I have to use felt?

Not at all! If you don’t have felt on hand, construction paper will work great. Just make sure the edges aren’t sticking out so that little eyes and eyebrows don’t get paper cutes. I do not recommend using card stock since it’s a little more difficult to wrap around circular objects.

Pro Tips!

  • Make these adorable Christmas binoculars extra fun by using glitter felt instead of plain felt. There’s always more room for glitter!
  • Lay craft paper down on your work station to protect from hot glue drips and make for an easy clean-up.
  • If you are making this with younger children, cut the strips of felt out for them beforehand to make things go more quickly and smoothly.
