Ingredients Patriotic Fruit Kabobs

  • Strawberries – Trim and chop fresh strawberries into small bite size pieces and you are good to go.
  • Blueberries – Just like the strawberries, fresh blueberries are your best bet here, frozen will become too soft when they thaw.
  • Mini marshmallows – Of course, you want to buy the white mini marshmallows, not the colored ones.
  • Bamboo skewers – You can also buy wooden or reusable metal skewers for kabobs.

How to Make Fruit Skewers

The first thing you need to do is to wash and dry your strawberries and blueberries.

Cut the strawberries into small pieces about the same size as the mini marshmallows and blueberries.

Take a bamboo skewer and thread a strawberry, marshmallow then a blueberry onto it. Make sure the seeds of the strawberries are facing one side for best presentation. Repeat until the skewer is full.

Continue until all the fruit and marshmallows are on the skewers. You should end up with around 24 skewers.

Cover and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve. They are best enjoyed within 24 hours of making.

Variations for Fruit Kabobs

  • Instead of using mini marshmallows use Angel Food Cake pieces for more of a dessert. Cut the cake into 1” cubes and thread them onto the bamboo skewers.
  • Lay your fruit kabobs on a white platter in rows. For 2/3 of the skewers just use mini marshmallows and strawberries and lay those next to each other. Then for the other 1/3 of the skewers replace the last 4” of each skewer with blueberries. Lay them down on the last 1/3 of the platter to make it look like a flag!
  • You can use blackberries, grapes, bananas, and even watermelon to mix up the fruits in your kabob.
  • Another great idea is to take small star shape cookie cutters and cut out watermelon and add those to the end of your skewer for fun presentation.

Pro Tips

  • Cut up the strawberries ahead of time and hand all of the ingredients and supplies over to the kids to put together for a festive (and tasty!) activity.
  • If you plan to keep this out on a table for a few hours, you may want to set your platter on ice to keep the fruit nice and cold.
