Why You Should Make 4th of July Brownies!

  • The kids will love this fun baking project! Mine love to cut out the brownies and decorate them with chocolate and sprinkles.
  • This is a great make-ahead dessert for parties because the brownies need to rest overnight. This allows them to set so they have the best fudgy texture.
  • Arrange them on a platter or serve them with ice cream! They are the perfect size for an ice cream topper.
  • You don’t have to wait for a patriotic party to make these treats! Switch up the sprinkles and colored chocolate to match any holiday or event. The possibilities are endless.

Patriotic Brownies Ingredients

Ingredients to Patriotic Brownies

For the Brownies

  • Granulated sugar – this type of sugar gives the brownies a chewy texture.
  • Brown sugar – this one makes them nice and fudgy!
  • Vanilla extract – just a little for extra flavor.
  • Large eggs plus extra egg yolks – the extra yolks add moisture and richness so the brownies have a great texture.
  • Unsalted butter
  • Semisweet chocolate chips
  • Vegetable oil
  • All-purpose flour
  • Cocoa powder

For Decorating

  • White melting chocolate – you can use white chocolate candy melts or white chocolate almond bark. The candy melts will be whiter, so just keep that in mind.
  • Red melting chocolate – if you can’t find these at the grocery store, most craft stores carry them or you can order them on line.
  • Red, white and blue sprinkles – there are lots of options!

Recipe Tips

  • Want to skip the chocolate drizzles? Sprinkle the sprinkles over the brownie batter in the pan before you bake it.
  • You can also skip the sprinkles and just decorate the brownies with melted chocolate. You can use white chocolate along with red and blue candy melts.
  • I highly recommend using a plastic cutter so you get a clean cut on the brownies.
  • Really short on time? Use your favorite box brownie mix! I just recommend letting the brownies rest overnight so they’re nice and fudgy.
