Many places celebrate the entire week with daily fun! These cute puppets would be a great activity for a day combined with reading the book or watching the movie Cat in the Hat by Dr. Seuss.
Supplies Needed for Cat in the Hat Puppet
- Black and White Cardstock
- Crayons or Markers
- Paper Bag
- White Chalk Marker
- Cat in the Hat Template
Print and Color Template
The first thing you need to do is download the free Cat in the Hat template. Then print it on white cardstock.
Next you need to color in the template that you printed. Color the hat red and white and the bow red. You can use markers or crayons!
After it’s colored in cut each individual piece out.
Glue Black Cardstock to Paper Bag
Next, you’ll need to glue a piece of black cardstock to the paper bag, allow it to dry and then cut off the excess.
Assemble the Puppet!
Now it’s time to put it all together!
Glue the cat in the cat in the hat pieces onto the bag. Add detail to the cats bow and hat using a white chalk marker if desired. It’s just those little shadows on the bow tie!
If you are doing this with a group of younger kids you can prep everything by printing and cutting the template out before hand if you’d like.
Also, you can glue the card stock onto the paper bag ahead of time and have that ready to go.
Another option is to leave the paper bag plain and the cat will just have a brown body instead of black! Or, buy black paper bags if you can!
If you don’t have white cardstock you can use regular white printer paper but the puppet won’t be as sturdy or hold up as well.
