Butter Slime

Don’t worry this easy DIY Butter Slime is not made with actual butter. It gets its name from the smooth butter-like texture! Unlike traditional slime it doesn’t ooze. Instead it bends, molds and is so much fun to play with.

Butter Slime Ingredients

  • White school glue – You’ll need plain white school glue as the base of this butter slime recipe.
  • Shaving cream foam – This gives the slime the fluffy texture. Don’t get shaving gel, it needs to be specifically shaving cream foam.
  • Baking soda – Baking soda will help add firmness to the slime. If your slime is too runny, gradually add more baking soda until it firms up.
  • Contact solution – The boric acid and sodium borate in contact solution act as an activator for the slime. It also helps make the slime less sticky! Gradually add more contact solution if your slime is sticky.
  • White model magic – Grab 4-ounce bag of Crayola model magic clay from the craft section of your local grocery store or craft store. You’ll use about half of it in this recipe.
  • Lotion – You can use any type of lotion for this recipe! It will help give your slime a soft and stretchy texture.
  • Food coloring – This is optional, but it’s way more fun to play with colored slime! Gel food coloring works best to color butter slime.
  • Large mixing bowl – Use a large glass mixing bowl to mix all of the ingredients together.

How To Make Butter Slime

In a large glass mixing bowl, combine glue, shaving foam, and baking soda with a spoon.

Add contact solution and stir until combined.

Add 2 ounces of model magic (just half of the 4 ounce package), and knead until thoroughly combined.

Add lotion to the slime mixture to make it soft and pliable. Stretch and knead the slime until everything is completely combined.

Lastly, add a few drops of whichever food coloring you want! Knead it in and add more drops until you reach the desired color.

That’s it! Your butter slime is all ready to go!

Pro Tips

  • Wear disposable gloves while you knead in the food coloring! Once combined, it won’t dye your hands, but it could stain your fingers in the beginning.
  • To extend the life of your slime, always play with it on a clean surface. This will ensure your slime doesn’t pick up crumbs and other debris.
  • Use scented lotion if you want your butter slime to have a little scent to it!
  • If your slime is too runny add more baking soda.
  • If your slime is too sticky, add more contact solution.

How do you store butter slime?

Place your slime in a zip top bag or airtight container. Separate and store your slime by color if you have multiple colors! Be sure to squeeze all of the air out of the ziplock bag before sealing it. Homemade slime will last a week or so when stored properly.
