Materials needed for this Spaceship Craft

  • Construction Paper – You can use any of your favorite colors as the body of your spaceship! I used blue, green, and yellow.
  • Pom Poms – These can be found at your local craft store or on the craft aisle at your grocery store. Get the pack that has multiple different sizes and colors in it.
  • Wooden Craft Sticks – You can use colored or regular wooden craft sticks. The colors are more fun, but you could also quickly paint regular craft sticks if you can’t find colored ones.
  • Craft Glue – Any good craft glue will work!
  • Googly Eyes – I like to purchase a package of multi-sized googly eyes for this craft.
  • Pipe Cleaner – Sparkly pipe cleaners are extra fun for this spaceship craft, but you can use regular ones too!
  • Scissors – If you’re letting little kids cut out their own shapes, consider using safety scissors.

How to make this Alien Spaceship Craft

CUT: Take a sheet of yellow construction paper and draw a half circle on the paper. Then, fold it in 4 and cut it to create four tops for the spaceships. Draw a curved banana shape on the green paper and fold it in four. Cut it to create four bottoms for the spaceship.

GLUE: On the back of a yellow half circle, glue two wooden craft sticks on at an angle. Allow it to dry and then flip it over and glue a green bottom onto the yellow shape.

Glue four or five pom poms along the green bottom to make it look like lights on the spaceship. Then, glue one to three medium (or small) pom poms on top of the yellow body of the space ship.

CUT: Cut some pipe cleaners into small pieces and glue them into the alien pom pom to create antennas. You can press tiny pom poms into the top of the antenna or curve it to give the antennas a little movement.

FINISH: Glue the googly eyes, or just one eyes, to your alien and you’re done!

I can’t find pom poms, what else can I use?

If you can’t find glittery pom poms, you could use regular ones! You can also use buttons, craft jewels, any other small circular object, or even draw your alien and lights.

Pro Tips for the best Alien Spaceship Craft

  • Make your spaceship extra fancy by adding glitter glue to the edges and on the wooden craft sticks!
  • Create a bigger space ship by cutting out larger shapes and using jumbo craft sticks. If you do this, try using card stock instead of construction paper so that the larger shapes won’t flop around.
  • You can place small beads on the end of your pipe cleaners as an end to your antennas!
