Get the craft supplies out because it’s time to celebrate the super moms! I have so many craft ideas for kids to make and give as gifts and this Super Hero Mom Craft is up there with the best of them. You can cut out the template for smaller kids, but this DIY superhero craft is great for fine motor skills practice for those who are ready to use scissors.

You only need a few supplies to make these puppets, which I’m sure you already have ready to go like a paper lunch bag, googly eyes and construction paper. Superhero crafts for kids are always a hit, especially when they’re creating a superhero they know in real life, their mom!

The kids also ask me to print out these great Color By Number Worksheets, while still trying to keep it a surprise! If you are looking for another great homemade idea, try out this clever Mother’s Day Card!

Key Supplies

  • Printable template – Print out a few copies of the template so more than one kid can participate at a time. You might even want to laminate the pieces so you can use them over and over again!
  • Paper lunch sack – This provides the perfect sized background to glue all of the super mom pieces to. In a pinch, you could use half of a sturdy piece of cardstock in it’s place.
  • Googly eyes – No googly eyes? No problem! Just use a marker to draw the eyes on each super mom puppet.

How To Make Super Hero Mom Craft

  1. Print templates – Trace each piece onto construction paper and carefully cut the shapes out with scissors. Set the pieces aside.
  2. Create the base – Take a sheet of construction paper and trace it so it matches the size of the front of your paper lunch sack. Cut the paper to size and glue it to the front of the bag just below the flap.
  3. Attach the cape – Turn the bag over so the back side is facing up. Glue the cape piece onto the back of the bag so it looks like it is flowing behind your superhero.
  4. Attach hair – Position the hairpiece so it sits along the top back edge of the bag. Glue it down and allow a moment for the glue to dry.
  5. Assemble face – Flip the bag back to the front side. Glue the face template onto the flap of the bag. Next, glue the mask directly onto the face piece and glue on googly eyes. Glue the bangs just above the mask so they slightly overlap the top of the face. Draw a nose and mouth on the face. Kids can also add freckles, eyelashes, or rosy cheeks if they want to personalize their superhero.
  6. Add logo – Cut out the Super Mom logo from your template and glue it to the center front of the bag below the flap. Allow to dry completely.

Pro Tips

  • Younger children may need help cutting the smaller template pieces or you can pre-cut everything beforehand if you wish.
  • Allowing the glue to set for a few minutes between steps helps keep the pieces from sliding around.
  • Kids can decorate the cape with stars, lightning bolts, or glitter glue for extra superhero style.
  • Construction paper scraps work great for customizing the logo or adding accessories.
