Helpful Tools

How to Make Brownie Mix Cookies

Mix: Place the brownie mix, flour, oil, eggs, and water in a large mixing bowl (or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment). Mix until the batter is well combined.

Scoop: Form the dough into balls using a one-tablespoon cookie scoop. Place them on a prepared baking sheet.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake the cookies for eight minutes. Leave them on the pan for two minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool.

Decorate! Once the cookies have cooled to room temperature, add the frosting and decorations.

  • Frost each cookie with about one tablespoon of frosting. An offset spatula or spoon makes this easy.
  • Take two pretzels and place them at the top of the cookie to make the antlers.
  • Add a red M&M for the nose.
  • Take two candy eyes and place them between the M&M and pretzels.

Tips for the BEST Brownie Mix Cookies

The cookie dough is very thick so I recommend using either a stand mixer with a paddle attachment (not the whisk attachment) or a hand mixer to make the dough. It will be very hard to mix it well by hand.

Keep an eye on the cookies while they bake. You don’t want to overbake them because they will dry out and not be as fudgy. So once they are set around the edges and on top they’re ready.

Wait to frost the cookies until they are completely cooled. Otherwise the frosting will melt and make a mess!

Can you freeze these cookies?

I don’t recommend freezing these brownie mix cookies.

How should you store brownie mix?

If you stack these cookies, the decorations and frosting will get smooshed so store them in a single layer. You can use shallow airtight containers or a couple 9×13″ baking pans covered with plastic wrap.

Store the cookies at room temperature and plan to enjoy them within a day of making them for the best flavor and texture.
