What age is best for board books?
These durable books are best for little ones aged 0-3. They are great because of they are sturdy, colorful and the thick pages are easy for little hands to turn and practice fine motor skills. Many board books also have different textures, encouraging sensory development in small children.
When to move away from board books?
Around the ages of 2-3 would be a good time to move toward books with longer, more complex stories and pages that have regular thickness pages to encourage fine motor skill development. If your child can turn pages gently, has a growing vocabulary and is showing interest in longer stories, it could be time to make the switch! Of course, if your child has some favorite board books, I don’t think there is anything wrong with holding on to them a little longer.
This round up of beloved board books features so many great books to add to your child’s book shelf whether they are celebrating their birthday, Christmas or just time for a new book.
