Ingredients

  • Pretzel rods
  • Neon green candy melts – look for these at craft stores or online!
  • Coconut oil – this helps thin the candy melts so it’s easy to dip and evenly coat the pretzels.
  • Large red heart sprinkles – don’t skip these, they’re key to the Grinch look!

Helpful Tools

How to Make Them

Place candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl and melt the following the package instructions. Once the chocolate is smooth, stir in the coconut oil.

Pour the melted chocolate candy into a tall glass. Dip each pretzel rod into the glass, coating it about 1/2 way with the candy coating.

Lay each coated pretzel on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Chill them for five minutes or until the coating is hardened.

Transfer the rest of the candy melt to an icing bag or Ziplock. If your coating has firmed up, you can rewarm it for a few seconds in the microwave.

If using a bag, snip off one corner at a 45-degree angle so you can pipe the chocolate.

Start piping where the chocolate coating ends on each rod. Use a zigzag pattern as you move up the rod to the tip. Try to keep the candy from reaching the parchment paper, so you don’t end up with spikes on the sides of the rods. Pipe just enough so the zigzag hugs the top of the pretzel.

While the candy is wet, add a red heart about a quarter inch below the top of the pretzel. If the coating dries before you can add them, just add a small dot on the back of the heart to secure it.

Chill the Grinch pretzels for five minutes or until the coating is completely set. Store them in an airtight container if you aren’t serving them right away.

Recipe Tips

If you can’t find the neon green candy melts, you can use white candy melts and tint the melted candy with green food coloring. Make sure it’s an oil-based food dye or it will seize. Start with a little coloring and add more until you get the right color.

I love the salty-sweet combo, but you can use plain pretzel rods if you don’t want the salt.

When I make these with my kiddos, I melt the candy and get everything set up for them. My littles love to do the dipping, and my oldest helps with the zigzagging! Everyone loves to help place the hearts.

These make the cutest gifts! Package them in clear bags with fun Christmas ribbons and a tag. They also look great on a holiday dessert platter or make some for a cookie exchange.

You can store them at room temperature in an airtight container. If it’s warm, you might want to keep them in the refrigerator instead so the coating doesn’t soften.
