Kids will love this Letter Fishing Activity that’s perfect for hot summer days! Toss magnetic letters into a kiddie pool and let them fish them out with a magnetic fishing rod. Then practice letter identification and letter sounds. Fun and play mixed together for the perfect preschool activity.

Kids love water during the summer and now you combine their love for water with learning! That’s why this Letter Fishing Activity is so much fun and the perfect preschool activity.

All you need is a kiddie pool, water, magnetic letters and a magnetic fishing pole. Dump the letters into the water and let them go fishing! They will have a blast.

When they “catch” a letter have them identify the letter and/or give the letter sound depending on their ability.

It’s the perfect way for preschools and kindergarteners to practice letter recognition and sounds while having fun. They won’t even know they are learning.

Another option is to give them a plastic scoop and let them scoop up the letters do the same thing.

Supplies Needed

Setting up the Letter Fishing

  • Fill the kiddie pool with water.
  • Dump the magnetic letters into the pool
  • Have the kids take a magnetic fishing pole and fish for a letter.
  • When they catch a letter have them pull it off the magnet and identify the letter plus make the letter sound depending upon ability.
  • Throw it back in and go fishing again!
  • Another option is to use a scoop to scoop the letters up and do the same letter recognition and sound practice with the letters they scoop up!
